SCORE Small
Business Talk:
Your Views and Our News
Bill McCabe– Port Charlotte SCORE
As you may know, Port Charlotte SCORE has been offering educational
programs for business people in this area since 1985.
Our Workshop Manager is now making plans for our fall and winter
New Biz and Biz Owner Academies. The New Biz Academy will offer a set of
workshops entitled “Simple Steps to Start a Business” and the Biz Owner
Academy will present a set of workshops called “Simple Steps to Grow
Your Business.” Both Academies will offer workshops on additional
topics. Before the manager makes his final selection of additional
topics, he would like input from readers of this column about what
business topics would be of interest to you. We will give respondents a
$5 coupon that can be applied to the tuition for any of our workshop
programs. Make your suggestion by email to
score0318@aol.com. Use Topic in the subject line. We
will post workshop topics and schedules on our web site in June.
We are seeking volunteers for several positions in our office. We need
two people to expand our pool of instructors for the Biz Academies. We
need one person to run a roundtable program designed to bring business
people together to exchange information on shared business issues. We
are also seeking a Marketing Manager to assume responsibility for
publicizing our mentoring services, workshops and roundtables (a great
way for a young person to gain some experience). If any of these
volunteer opportunities appeal to you, send an email to the same address
with Volunteer in the subject line. I will contact you to set up a
follow-up meeting.
The SCORE Association, of which we are a unit, will launch a new web
site and new web sites for each of its 368 offices on April 29. The main
web site,
www.score.org, will still
provide on-line workshops on a variety of business issues plus an
improved expert search feature. The new system will include an
up-to-date Client Relationship Management system that will support our
delivery of services in our area (Charlotte, DeSoto and South Sarasota
counties) and make it easier for you to register for mentoring services,
workshops and roundtables.
When launched, our new address will be
www.portcharlotte.score.org.
I will
tell you more about the new web site in my next column.
Port Charlotte SCORE has just been notified that it was one of 30
offices out of 368 to receive an award for having met or exceeded the
standards set by the National organization for the last operational
year. Some of the standards dealt with internal issues, but we are
especially pleased that we exceeded those related to the delivery of
services. We view it as a platform from which to do even better in the
future.
